Studio change
In July I had to say goodbye to my first studio that had been my happy place for the previous two years. The former Newington Library turned out to be a key part in my transition from being an art enthusiast and student, to slowly becoming a full-time artist.
I had a 24/7 access to this beautiful room, in which the light always struck in the most beautiful ways, it was somewhere I could get messy and leave things out, where I could be working on multiple paintings at a time, hire models, invite friends over for painting session, take the time to think, paint, shed tears, get confused and move forward.
I’ll forever have warm memories towards this studio in which I had so many first; my first two-person show A Painted Touch of Life; my first commissions; my first installation pieces for my Grad Show…my first confirmations that this path as an artist was truly the one that felt the most meaningful for me.
I’m so grateful for those pictures that Roksana took off me just before I had to leave, that immortalise my last days at this studio, while I was working on The Dance for the Now We Are Six exhibition.
I’m now opening a new chapter in a new place in Bethnal Green. I’m so grateful I found somewhere else to move into. This time there’s no direct light coming in, but it’s already a luxury finding somewhere I can afford. I know it will impact my work in different ways, very likely that it’ll be more from my imagination and memories for some time and less from life; I’m excited about finding out where this chapter takes me. And looking forward to sharing that with you.
