The painting I’m currently exploring

Newsletter #11

[03//2022]

Dear friends!

It’s been a few months since I last wrote to you (but true to say you accompany my thoughts regularly!). 2022 is treating me well so far; after the challenging last two years I was relieved to have this symbolic new start in January. I finally could settle in the new-new studio after having had to move once again in December when the previous place closed down unexpectedly. Teaching weekly, working on commissions and applying to competitions has brought back more structure to my practice, making me feel much better altogether.

And yet I couldn’t wait to also carve out some time to write to you, so here it is!

Click on the links below to read more about my teaching, my hands, and my luck with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. I’m also asking for venue recommendations regarding a solo show in June!

And if you’d like to go back to previous newsletter, more content and access to my sketchbooks, here it is!
You can find original works through my shop and what I share on Instagram; and here for commission work or by contacting me directly!

Teaching, in person & online

This term I’ve been getting so much joy weekly teaching to four different groups. In this blog post I’m reflecting on how I approach teaching and why I love it so much! Also looking for ways to make it available to more people by offering online classes from the Summer. I’d be grateful to hear your views on a few points, so it ends with a form if you have a few minutes. Thanks in advance!

My hands, born with the amniotic band syndrome

Some recent gouache paintings led me to explore painting my hand further than I had so far; thinking about my surgeries and all the changes they went through.

Sharing it has been challenging but important to me and I thought now would be a good time to give my hands a proper presentation!

Gouache & the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours

I’m incredibly happy that four of my paintings have been selected in this year’s exhibition, for the fourth year in a row.

Here’s a little retrospective on how much I’ve enjoyed pushing this part of my practice in correlation with the Institute’s support, and general thoughts on why I love this medium so much!

210th exhibition at the Mall Galleries, 14.04 to 23.04, 10am to 5pm

And lastly I’m reaching for your help in finding a venue for… my solo show! After the seed was planted in my mind by friends, the thought of giving my work its special moment grew on me over the past few weeks and I decided that this June (my birthday month) would be the perfect time for me to take the leap! I’m looking at hiring a small to medium size venue in London (ideally easy to access to most) for a weekend or a week. If anything comes to your mind please let me know! And of course I’ll keep you posted on the details as soon as I find the space!

Hope you’re feeling good on your side. The world is going through a lot of pain; I hope in your direct existence you can find space, safety and joy.

Sending warm thoughts your way,

Suzon xx
